World Health Day 2023- Health for All

Today is World Health Day, and as we celebrate it, the theme "Health for All" takes center stage. Unfortunately, 30% of the world's population still needs access to essential healthcare services. As a result, this year's campaign emphasizes the importance of fair access to healthcare services for all people, regardless of location, background, or financial status.

Three projects are highlighted here that showcase K&A's efforts to design purposeful, people-fit universal healthcare facilities that promote health for all.

1- The Haydarpasa Health Campus and the Kartal Lütfi Kırdar Oncology Hospital, Turkey
K&A participated in designing the Haydarpasa Health Campus and the Kartal Lütfi Kırdar Oncology Hospital in a joint venture with timA Engineering. The project is part of a considerable effort to improve institutional and technical capacity for disaster management and emergency response, strengthen critical public facilities for earthquake resistance, and support measures to improve building codes and land-use implementation plans.

The Haydarpasa Health Campus Project includes work on two essential hospitals—one of them serving people for over 100 years—on the same campus: the reconstruction of Numune Training and Research Hospital, a hospital providing services since 1903, and the construction of an additional hospital building for Dr. Siyami Ersek Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Training and Research Hospital, established in 1962. The Haydarpasa Health Campus has a total gross built area of 190.000 m2, with a 385-bed capacity, and the Kartal Lütfi Kırdar Oncology Hospital Project has a total gross built area of 46,420 m2. Our experts designed all hospitals to be ready for seismic threats by incorporating seismic isolators into their structures, making them earthquake-resistant and fully operational during and after earthquakes. The hospitals' anti-seismic designs have a platinum rating in "Baseline Resilience Objectives for Design Level Earthquake" and aim to achieve LEED Gold-V4 status from the US Green Building Council.

2- The Al-Hamidy University Hospital, Lebanon
The Al-Hamidy Charitable Endowment is one of Tripoli's leading providers of healthcare services, offering innovative approaches that allow patients and doctors to heal and work within their own environment. As part of their ongoing strategy, Al-Hamidy commissioned K&A to develop an innovative healthcare facility in Tripoli, Lebanon. The hospital will include several institutes, leveraging Tripoli's capabilities, and will provide 24-hour primary care and a full range of secondary outpatient care across all therapeutic areas and selected inpatient services. As the main consultant for the project's design, our experts created alternatives and a conceptual approach to accommodate a grand entrance with natural light, creating a stunning yet calming ambiance for all who enter the facility with seamless and intuitive navigation from drop-off points to department floors. The project has two phases: Phase 1 will include approximately 120 inpatient beds and associated services, while Phase 2 will comprise the additional beds required to reach 180 bed capacity.

3- The Abu Dhabi Medical Rehabilitation Center, United Arab Emirates
The Abu-Dhabi Medical Rehabilitation Center is a project launched by SEHA (the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company) to provide post-surgery rehabilitation treatments for trauma cases and meet the Emirate's expanding need for rehabilitation cases. The Abu-Dhabi Government entrusted K&A, through MUSANADA, with providing detailed design and detailed master planning services for the existing compound, including the most recent rehabilitation innovations. The 156-bed state-of-the-art Rehabilitation Center will be part of the Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City master plan development, considering the existing hospital and supportive facilities' rehabilitations.
