THE GRAND HARBOR
STRATEGIC PLAN

Malta wants to boost
the harbor’s cruise
ship capacity, which on
average welcomes up
to 700 vessels a year
and can berth a world-
record seven liners
simultaneously at
peak periods.
Delivering the Valletta
Grand Harbor Strategic
Plan will involve the
consolidation of docks
required for berthing,
increasing their lengths
and rearranging
existing roads to
improve transport links
to Valletta.
The port of Valletta is
designated as a World
Heritage Site and most
of the urban fabric
around the Grand
Harbor is comprised
of historic monuments
and listed buildings.
There are currently
several abandoned
structures and derelict
buildings, polluting
activities, boat
cemeteries and repair
yards that need to be
rationalized within
the framework of the
strategic plan. à
