Qatar (1 March 2023) - As a gold sponsor, Khatib & Alami (K&A) took part in the Leaders in Construction Summit Qatar 2023, which focused on the country's outlook post-FIFA World Cup, as well as projects and plans that align with Qatar National Vision 2030.

This flagship event, organized by Construction Week Middle East, provided us with the opportunity to showcase our understanding of how the infrastructure sector is fast developing.

"The infrastructure developed in Qatar for the 2022 World Cup has met the highest standards, especially since the country has worked with leading, top-notch international consultants and contractors to design and construct its facilities," said Alex Hanna, K&A's Qatar Vice President. "The quality of the newly built infrastructure has significantly reduced congestion on roads and traveling times, thus reducing the cost impact on the economy." To maintain a High Level of Service, Alex pointed out that asset management and long-term maintenance framework contracts will become more popular, and it is certain that an increasing percentage of the capital projects' budget will be allocated toward infrastructure maintenance.

Commenting on which industry sectors should be given priority in the upcoming years, he added:" As Qatar seeks to reduce its carbon footprint and meet its commitments to global climate action, sustainability will be a key component in the design and construction of most industries. On a sectoral level, public healthcare developments, infrastructure projects such as Qatar Integrated Drainage Master Plan, metro plans, and transit-oriented developments should be prioritized."

Thanks to the FIFA World Cup, Qatar saw an incremental increase in construction activities over the last few years. According to K&A's Qatar Business Development Manager, Samer Aoun, the country has set ambitious goals for infrastructure development, especially in smart city schemes and resilient systems that embody Qatar National Vision 2030. "More emphasis will be placed on strategic areas and building attraction points that will drive tourists and visitors to the country," Samer explained.
